that is why i am not getting upset over things that are not going right at the moment.

they are taking care of the worst fast as they can and refinements will follow.

this will still be rough for a chapter or so as it is a work in progress and i simply am enjoying it.

Anet told us they'd be making expansions and we'd pay for them pretty much since the idea of Guild Wars was out. It's not major news - sorry you didn't bother to do any research.

And yes, it is a free game. You don't have to buy Factions or Chapter 3 or above. You could still play Guild Wars: Prophecies for free until the server is shut down.

It's a good thing he didn't make that claim then, eh?

Yeah, you're right. It wasn't a hassle for you so that means it was the same for everybody.

Don't ever remember saying I won't buy it...I said I won't PREORDER it. I said I would WAIT until I hear about it from friends and guildies BEFORE buying. I never flat out said I'm not buying them...

Sorry you couldn't understand that.

Let us not forget the typical MMO has expansion fees on top of monthly fees.

After seeing WoW's planned expansion(which is taking almost twice as long to put out as Factions), I'm pretty glad I switched to Guild Wars. We got a much larger game than they'll get... Essentially, WoW will remain the same exact game it was with two new races(Which are little more than changes in appearance), a few extra dungeons, and one new land to explore(which I'm pretty sure you have to be max-level to enter).

Same for me. No hassle at all other than a second trip to the store. However, I picked up the prerelease only 3-4 days before the game released. The prerelease let me play a day ahead of time and gave decent weapons that helps out a new character fairly well and didn't cost me anything for something I knew I was going to get anyways.

What exactly was your problem with pre-order?
Personally, I prefer this pre-order to any other...

You get free stuff for nothing.

I don't think they will be shutting down the prophecies server any time.I would have to say if they did it would be for a more updated look like restoreing Ascalon sort of like pre.If there is one server they would shut down it would be the pre one.

as a pvp player, i'll also buy the expansions. i'm very very disappointed with factions, but i need the damn skills. i'll probably feel the same way about the other "expansions". BUT, i will not preorder or get CE since i'm affraid i'll get scamed out like factions did.

Not shutting down the server entirely. Go to different town like War Camp, Ascalon, LA, Forge and other places. You see less districts than before. Like in War Camp, there used to be 10 outpost now it down to 5. So instead of killing the server for certain chapter, they're limiting the amount of districts it take from the server side.

He means when Anet goes bankrupt, people stop playing, the world explodes, whatever. The servers will not be running for all time.

Wow, dont even try to blame this on Anet. If you dont like the game mechanic, and you knew nothing about it, its your own damn fault preordering.

Chapter three began development Fall 2005, and will be released Fall 2006. Chapter four began development Spring 2006, and will be released Spring 2007.
6 months.. 12 months.. so?

Other games on the shelves going for $50 (or $49.99, whatever floats your boat) are in development for an average of two to three years. 12 months for a game is still very short!

I think Half Life 2 has like 5 to 6 years in development before we got it released later 2005?

What I blame Anet for is not letting us know how the finished product would be, and instead saying something that could even be taken as a reassurance, while offering gifts that you don't get if you actually do 'wait and see how it is.'

that is very true.

however you are forgetting the facts that Anet does not have to spend the time creating an engine for the game as they have one they are familiar with.

Anet also doesnt have to start from scrarch in building the landscape, characters, artwork, animations, etc while Anet has a big (and growing bigger each chapter) library of items to drag and drop for the next continent.

the more chapters they make with the bigger library and greater familiarity with doing the work the more time they will have for new additional content.

so yes they can do more in one year than another company starting a new game from scratch.

They have been in devopement for 12 months.

When Prophecies was released factions had already been 6 months into developement, when Factions was released Chapter 3 had already been 6 months into developement.

They have more then 1 team to do work..
